Look for a maker, not only a showroom
A showroom can sell you a design; a maker with its own workshop controls how it is built. That matters when a wall is out of square, a stone floor is uneven or a detail needs to change. Ask where the furniture is made and ask to see finished projects.
What to check before choosing a furniture maker in the Algarve
- Site measurement. The maker should measure on site before drawing anything.
- Drawings and samples. Approve technical drawings and see material samples before production. If you are abroad, ask whether this can be done remotely.
- Materials for the climate. Close to the sea, furniture faces humidity, salt air and strong sun. Ask which materials and finishes the maker recommends for your home. For damp areas, we use moisture-resistant MDF and marine plywood.
- Installation. Check who installs and how many trips are planned.
- A written quote. It should list measuring, delivery, installation and VAT.
- Guarantee and aftercare. Goods bought by consumers in Portugal carry a 3-year legal guarantee, which also covers a badly done installation (gov.pt). Ask who handles adjustments after installation.

If the house will be rented, durability and easy maintenance count as much as looks. Fewer, better-made pieces, designed for the space, usually last longer than off-the-shelf furniture that has to be adapted.
