Bespoke furniture has a longer lead time than buying from stock, because each piece is drawn, approved and made for your space. Knowing the stages helps you plan, especially if you are renovating, moving in on a set date or managing the project from abroad.

Bespoke furniture lead time: the stages
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Brief and first proposal | You share photos, plans and needs; the maker proposes a direction |
| 2. Site measurement | Every wall, opening and level is measured |
| 3. Drawings, samples and quote | Technical drawings, material samples and a written quote |
| 4. Approval | You approve drawings and quote; production is scheduled |
| 5. Manufacturing | Joinery, finishing, upholstery and assembly in the workshop |
| 6. Delivery and installation | Pieces are delivered and installed on site |
At Crossline, a bespoke furniture project typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. The exact time depends on the size of the project and on the points below.
What makes a project longer
- Changes after approval. Every change sends the drawings back a step.
- Special materials. Some woods, stones, fabrics or hardware have their own supply times.
- Complex finishes. Lacquers in several coats, special colours or hand finishes need drying and curing time.
- Site readiness. Installation can only start when walls, floors and electrics are finished.
How to keep to your date
- Decide the key choices (layout, materials, colours) early.
- Approve drawings and samples quickly and in writing.
- If you are renovating, give the maker the date when the site will be ready for measuring and for installation.
- Measure again after building works if walls or floors have changed.
